This customization option is available only when purchasing a complete Melancholy or Jealousy bike. Your bike will be delivered with the customization already installed. The price includes both the parts and installation labor.

One Lever, Two Brakes, a Much Cleaner Cockpit

If you want your pista bike to look as clean as possible, unnecessary parts are probably the last thing you want hanging around.

Simply removing one brake lever makes a surprisingly big difference. The handlebar area looks cleaner, simpler, and much more like a proper pista bike.

The Ultimate in Simplicity: Brake Cable Splitter

For this dual-brake cable setup, we use a brake cable splitter from SIXTH COMPONENTS.

It is an impressively small and simple component, but it fits the brake levers on the Melancholy and Jealousy perfectly. The original outer and inner brake cables can also be reused without modification.

Returning the bike to its original two-lever setup is simple as well. The removed brake lever will be included with your complete bike, so you can always change it back later.

Your Legs Are the “Third Brake”

We are occasionally asked whether it is safe to operate both brakes using a single lever.

As you become more comfortable riding a fixed-gear bike, you will naturally develop the technique of slowing down by applying backward resistance through the pedals.

This method allows for delicate, responsive, and precise speed control—often more subtly than simply pulling a brake lever.

Once you become confident using your legs to control your speed, you may find yourself applying backward resistance far more often than reaching for the brake lever.

That’s right: once your legs become your “third brake,” you will probably need to use the front and rear brakes less frequently.

Important Notes

  • This customization uses a SIXTH COMPONENTS brake cable splitter.

  • You can choose whether the brake lever is installed for your right or left hand.

  • Because one lever operates both the front and rear brakes simultaneously, it may be more difficult to fine-tune the braking balance between the front and rear wheels. Please keep this in mind before ordering.

  • The removed original brake lever will be included and shipped with your bike.
